Exposition Seat Redesign

The problem:
Originally, the Exposition line had contour seats that were single piece construction from the back to the seat portion of both the benches and the carousel tables. Due to manufacturing constraints, the quality of the coating was not consistent enough to the standards set forth for our products. In an effort to solve this, the design team worked to separate the seat into two coated pieces connected by railings on the side. This allowed for the seat and back to be coated flat making defects less likely.
While working through possible solutions and prototyping, the bench seat was deflecting significantly which forced us to look at different approaches. Ultimately, we added additional material to the under supports via material thickness and changed how the long and short supports were being attached to one another to spread the load more effectively and reduce the amount of deflection.
